Star Wars Outlaws Sales Were Worse Than Expected, Ubisoft Admits, "Fully Mobilized" To Fix It

Ubisoft has confirmed that Star Wars Outlaws was not the success that it hoped it would be. The company said the game’s initial sales “proved softer than expected.” Ubisoft did not, however, provide a specific sales figure for the game or reveal what its targets were in the first place.

In response to the lower-than-expected sales and player feedback, Ubisoft said its teams are now “fully mobilized to swiftly implement a series of updates to polish and improve the player experience” ahead of the holidays. Ubisoft said it hopes Star Wars Outlaws can be a “strong long-term performer.”

Ubisoft also delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows to February 2025. Additionally, the company ditched plans for Shadows to have a season pass model and confirmed that Shadows will be available on Steam at launch.

Ubisoft also noted that it held a meeting with its board of directors recently and concluded that it needed to reduce its earnings forecast for the fiscal year, due in part to Outlaws coming up short and the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Ubisoft will share more details on its earnings results on October 30 when it next reports financial results. The company also signaled some changes on the horizon, saying it is “launching a review” with the aim of “improving our execution” and specifically what Ubisoft called a “player-centric approach.”
